The Midnight Call

It was a quiet night at the call center, and Sarah was the only one left on the floor. As she finished up her last call, she heard a strange noise coming from the next cubicle.

Thinking it was one of her coworkers, she got up to investigate. But when she peeked over the cubicle wall, she saw no one there.

As she turned to leave, the phone on the desk began to ring. Sarah hesitated for a moment, then answered it.

"Hello?" she said.

There was no response, only static on the other end. Sarah tried to hang up, but the phone wouldn't release from her grip.

Suddenly, she heard a voice whispering in her ear. "Help me," it said. Sarah felt a cold chill run down her spine, but before she could react, the line went dead.

She tried to shake off the feeling of dread and went back to her desk. But when she looked at her computer screen, she saw that the call had come from her own extension.

Terrified, Sarah tried to leave the office, but the doors were locked from the outside. She was trapped, alone with whatever had made that midnight call.

Sarah was losing hope when the door suddenly opened.  It was the roving guard!

From then on, whenever anyone worked late at the call center, they would hear strange noises coming from the next cubicle. And sometimes, late at night, the phone would ring, with only static on the other end.  No one had the courage to go on duty alone and pick up a call during midnight.
